Slow Metabolism

Slow Metabolsm? Is Your Metabolism The Reason You're Not Losing Weight? QUESTION:   Tom, we all know people who eat recklessly yet are very lean. My ex-husband seemed unable to put on ANY bodyfat whatsoever. At first I credited that to him being a very active athlete. But after spine surgery, he had to stay home for a year, did nothing but lay on the couch all day, play video games and eat his head off. He STILL didn't gain a pound! I know more men like this than women, but I do know a few women who seem "blessed" with naturally slim figures, even though they don't watch their diet or exercise. On the other hand, we all know individuals who seem "cursed" and will tend to pack on weight even with a reasonable diet. So here is my question: those real life examples seem to strongly demonstrate a wide gap in metabolism between individuals. Do you accept and acknowledge that? I strongly believe that I have a "slow metabolism"

Carb Cycling: Can This Old Bodybuilder's Trick Increase Your Fat Loss?

Carb Cycling: Can This Old Bodybuilder's Trick Increase Your Fat Loss? Q: Tom, I've been following your  Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle (BFFM)  program and using the carb cycling (aka zig zag) method. How long should it take to see results from cycling the carbs? I am just on my fourth day but I am curious as to what to expect. I am starting out with the basic guideline of 3 days low 1 day high and the macronutrient ratios suggested in BFFM. I am wondering how long to give it before knowing if I have to tweak the ratios. I am 5"2" and weigh 124 lbs. My beginning weight, 22 months ago, was 176 lbs. Now I'm trying your carb cycling method to shed the last of the stubborn fat that's "hanging" around. A:  Carb cycling has been a "secret weapon" fat loss trick of bodybuilders for decades. It's one of my personal favorite methods as well. It Works! However, what carb cycling can and can't do and how to use carb cycling most effe

Loose Skin and Weight Loss

How To Get Rid Of Loose Skin After Weight Loss  I receive a ton of e-mail from people who are concerned about having loose skin after they lose the weight. In fact, this is one of the biggest concerns and most frequently asked questions I receive from men and women who have a lot of weight to lose. Here's a question about loose skin I received from a reader of my syndicated "Ask Tom" fat loss column: "Tom, I began a fat loss program using your  Burn The Fat system  and it worked so well I got down to 15 1/2 stones (from 19). However, this has caused me a problem: Excess abdominal skin. I didn't crash lose this weight, it came off at the rate of about 2 lbs. per week just like you recommended. Now I'm unsure of whether to carry on, as my abdomen has quite a lot of excess skin - I feel like I've turned into a bloody Shar-Pei! Does everyone go through this? Will the skin tighten up? I was overweight for more than 12 years. Am I going to end

The Most Inspirational Body Transformation

They Laughed When The "Old Fat Guy" With Two Canes And Bone-on-Bone Arthritis Tried Pumping Iron In the Free Weight Room... But When He Lost 34 Pounds And Won The Body Transformation Contest... Out of the corner of his eye, he could see them snickering. And he could read their minds. The young 20-something "buff" guys we're thinking, "What's that old fart doing in our free weight room?" But he was unfazed. His doctors had ordered him to lose weight. And he knew this was it. Get in shape or get a wheelchair. When he saw the ad for the "body transformation contest" sponsored by Burn the Fat.com, he knew that was it - That was his ticket! But what chance would a 61-year old possibly have to win anything? Thousands of healthy people enter these contests and he couldn't even walk without canes. The only exercises he could do were sitting down. And what about the dropout rate? EVERYBODY knows that 80 or 90% of the people w

The Get Ripped Diet "Cheat Sheet"

The Get Ripped Diet "Cheat Sheet"  10 Simple Steps to Ultimate Leanness Getting a ripped body with extremely low body fat – lean enough that you can see all your abs – remains not only mysterious and elusive to most people, it also seems complicated. If you’ve ever read a science-based article or book on the subject of extreme fat loss, you may have seen references to... ...catecholamines, alpha-2 adrenoreceptors, hormone-sensitive lipase, cyclical adenosine monophospate, leptin and enough technical jargon to make you feel like you were back in college physiology class. I know there’s a small group of fitness nerds who love reading research, and there are a quite a few people who want to know the why behind the how of body fat reduction. But if you’re like most people, you either can’t wrap your head around all the scientific stuff or it just bores you to death. The question I rarely hear: “Hey Tom, send me some scientific papers to read!” The plea I’ve heard a

How to Get Ripped like a Bodybuilder

How To Get Ripped Like A Bodybuilder, Fitness Model Or Action Movie Star! The Legend And Mystique of The Ripped Physique Being "ripped" is the coveted condition where your body fat is so low that muscular details never seen on "average people" start standing out in bold relief: Ripped means muscle striations, vascularity, drum-tight skin, "cuts" (separations) between muscle groups and of course, the full set of 6-pack abs. Quite simply, a "ripped" person is like a walking anatomy chart. Few people ever achieve ripped condition, so when someone does get ripped, it gets attention and commands respect. A ripped physique stands out in any crowd - even a fit crowd, because there's lean and then there's beyond lean... the place called RIPPED! Most Burn The Fat readers already know what ripped means, because that word is part of bodybuilding vernacular and with the boom of fitness advertising into the mainstream (as i
